“Sankofa-Futures Colloquium: Mainstreaming Indigenous Knowledge and Futures in Global African Studies” featured a lead paper presenter, Dr Femi Oyamakin, whose lecture engaged the role of Ifa in complex statistics and the possible futures of Divination through Artificial Intelligence.

The celebration of Dr Tunde Adegbola’s Platinum Jubilee was marked with the Sankofa-Futures Colloquium in the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan, on Wednesday, 30th of July, 2025. The full day celebration also featured an evening screening of “O le Ku” by Tunde Kelani, the director of the film, after a burn fire session by the Boy Scouts.

The colloquium titled “Sankofa-Futures Colloquium: Mainstreaming Indigenous Knowledge and Futures in Global African Studies” featured a lead paper presenter, Dr Femi Oyamakin, whose lecture engaged the role of Ifa in complex statistics and the possible futures of Divination through Artificial Intelligence. Two panel sessions followed. The first featured Dr Sharon Omotoso, Dr Olaolu Adekola, Dr Philip Olayoku and Dr Kudus Adebayo and was moderated by Professor Adeshina Afolayan of the Department of Philosophy, University of Ibadan. The Graduate Students’ Panel, which featured Ms Abe Fadun-un-sin, Ms Bisola Ojo, Michael Awoyemi, Inyene Etuk, Ms Deborah Ojo, Ms Iwalewa Olorunyomi and Leye Komolafe, was moderated by Ms Matilda Adegbola, a Graduate Research Assistant. The day was graced by the presence of the celebrant, Dr Tunde Adegbola, his family and friends, mentors, students and scholars within and outside the University community.
